Importing dog from Polen

To import a dog from Poland and register it with the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK), the following requirements must be met:

1. Entry Requirements to Sweden

• Microchip Identification: The dog must be microchipped with an ISO-compliant microchip.
• Rabies Vaccination: The dog must have a valid rabies vaccination. The initial vaccination becomes valid 21 days after it is administered. Puppies can be vaccinated against rabies from the age of 12 weeks. Therefore, the earliest the vaccination will be valid is when the puppy is 15 weeks old.
• EU Pet Passport: The dog must have an EU pet passport issued by a licensed veterinarian in Poland, documenting the microchip and rabies vaccination.
• Notification to Swedish Customs (Tullverket): Upon arrival in Sweden, the dog must be declared to Customs. This can be done either in advance via the Swedish Customs website or at the border by selecting the red lane.

2. Registration with the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK)

• Export Pedigree: To register the dog with SKK, an export pedigree issued by the Polish Kennel Club (Polski Związek Kynologiczny, ZKwP) is required. The export pedigree must be issued in your name. The breeder in Poland must fulfill the following requirements to obtain an export pedigree:
1. Puppy Litter Registration: The breeder must register the litter with ZKwP and obtain individual pedigrees for each puppy.
2. Membership in ZKwP: The breeder must be a member of ZKwP to register litters and apply for export pedigrees.
3. Application for Export Pedigree: For puppies sold abroad, the breeder is required to apply for an export pedigree. This document is necessary for the new owner to register the dog in their home country.
4. Properly Completed Application: The breeder must accurately complete the export pedigree application with the puppy’s and new owner’s details.
5. Payment of Fees: The breeder must pay the fees associated with issuing the export pedigree to ZKwP.
It should be noted that breeders in Poland must also be affiliated with and registered through FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) via ZKwP. ZKwP is the only official FCI-affiliated kennel club in Poland. Export pedigrees issued by ZKwP are FCI-approved and recognized by other FCI-affiliated kennel clubs, including SKK. FCI affiliation ensures the breeder adheres to international breeding standards and regulations established by FCI.
• Registration Application: Complete and submit the “Registration Application for Imported Dog” form along with the export pedigree to SKK.
• Membership in SKK: You must be a member of an SKK-affiliated club to register the dog.
• Registration Fee: A registration fee applies. Current fees are listed on the SKK website.

3. Registration in the Swedish Board of Agriculture’s Central Dog Register

All dogs in Sweden must be registered in the Central Dog Register maintained by the Swedish Board of Agriculture. This registration is separate from SKK registration.

Summary

To import a dog from Poland and register it with SKK, you must ensure that the dog meets Sweden’s entry requirements, obtain an export pedigree from the Polish Kennel Club (ZKwP) according to their regulations, complete and submit the registration application to SKK, and be a member of an SKK-affiliated club. Don’t forget to also register the dog in the Swedish Board of Agriculture’s Central Dog Register.
